Ready or Not lets us play as the captain of a SWAT team and does so with bewitching skill, captivating you with challenging gameplay and intriguing gunplay. Between single player and online co-op, customization and progression, agent management and nuances galore, you soon find yourself hostage to a brutal FPS that just won't let you go. And that's fine, even if not everything is (yet?) perfect.
Although Ready or Not offers an intense and unique tactical experience, its focus on depicting real-world events may be too overwhelming for some players. The review weighs the tension and uncertainty of the game against missions that mirror real-life situations, raising crucial questions about sensitivity and ethics in the digital entertainment industry.
Ready or Not is not trying to cater to every gamer out there. Its a game made to those who loved RS at its peak. To those who loved Swat 4. The gameplay is amazing. The sound design is *chefs kiss*. The levels are all beautifully designed, and the AI is quite intelligent and challenging. NPC animations do need to improve A LOT, though.
Hope the devs keep updating and improving the game.
One of the best tactical shooter games of my life. This game has realistic graphics and it puts different ways to pass the stage in front of you. In one word, it can be said excellent work!
Ready or Not is an excellent tactical shooter that really immerses you into the role of a heavily-armed law enforcer, with all the split-second life-or-death decisions that entails. There are some annoying niggles in the single-player campaign and a few conspicuously missing features so there’s room for improvement, though it’s overall fun. It’s definitely a slower-paced shooter that requires a lot of patience for success, but if you’re willing to put in the effort to be a perfectionist policeman, Ready or Not will be right up your precinct.
Ready or Not has made a name for itself with VOID Interactive's ambitious goal to depict with absolute realism and without compromise the combat scenarios that a SWAT team faces on a daily basis. However, the truth is that behind the scandal lies an excellent first-person tactical shooter that, after two years of early access, is ready to inherit the legacy of SWAT.
An intriguing tactical shooter that embraces the precious SWAT legacy, offering a layered and challenging gameplay. It still lacks some polishing and we can't say that every idea got to achieve its full potential, but this is definitely an interesting and compelling gameplay experience for players that love to think before shooting.
Ready or Not is a game that is designed to make players feel uncomfortable. In one way, its tense gunfights and the uncertainty of what's behind the next door achieve that in spades. On the other, the locations and missions will cut a little too close to reality for some.
Ready or Not is the tactical PvE and multiplayer shooter you should keep an eye on. It is not only a complex and hard experience, but also super fun to play with friends. That idea of a super advanced AI is a reality. Enemies are unpredictable and behave erratically. An experience that I regret not having played before. [Recommended]
This game is exactly what the creators promised us. Gameplay and graphics are excellent and there are no flaws in it. I appreciate the production team and hope to see their increasing success.
TLDR: this game still feels like it’s in Early Access, and is in such an unfinished and unpolished state that I do not recommend anyone spend their hard earned cash on **** that 1.0 is officially released, and the game is “finished” I can safely say it is supremely undercooked. Let me explain. The most noticeable issue is performance. Performance has been bad since Alpha, it was bad in Early Access, and it’s still bad in 1.0. They’ve had more than enough time to work on this, and it was largely forgiven by the community because the game was in Early Access; well it’s not anymore and performance is still poor regardless of your **** game has been condensed down into 18 missions with only 2 game modes. The meat of RON is Commander Mode, and while I like the idea, the implementation is extremely threadbare. Commander Mode is pretty simple: clear each level while completing static objectives and try not to get yourself and your teammates killed. If you can manage to level up your AI officers, you can unlock their trait…though there’s absolutely no indication of how much XP each office has earned or how far away they are from unlocking said ability, so it just feels random as to when they unlock. Suffice it to say, these traits don’t add much to the experience. In fact, I’m confident in saying even after you unlock them you’ll be hard pressed to notice anything different, so they may as well not even be ****, what else does Commander Mode have going for it? Pretty much nothing. You do your missions in the order the devs planned out and that’s the game… Objectives don’t change from run to run, levels largely feel linear and static, there is no custom mission mode or quick play option, and even the randomness of enemy and civilian placement feel like they’ve been tamped down quite a bit from previous modes available during Early **** only other game mode is Practice Mode, which is just the same levels from Commander Mode without officer **** onto the bugs. This game launched with a plethora of bugs and buggy behavior. It is unfathomable to me that this gets a pass, as you can not go more than an hour without encountering serious bugs, many of which will outright ruin your run/score and force a mission **** game still has no gamma correction, so depending on your monitor it may appear unplayably dark. And there’s just nothing you can do about it. While this isn’t a bug, it may still be a deal breaker for some–this game is extremely dark, I can not overstate that enough. Finally a note on UI… It’s bad, it’s clunky, the HUD communicates almost no valuable information, it’s straight up MISSING assets and spelled wrong in places. It needs an entire redesign in my opinion. The UI and UX in this game is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced, and literally zero work went into improving it prior to **** conclusion, Void Interactive pushed this one out the door before it was ready. The year it was in Steam Early Access was spent reworking the entire campaign and cutting content instead of working on the core fundamentals of gameplay and performance.
I had high hopes for Ready Or Not and I started following it since it launched in EA and finally got it in 2023. The game felt unoptimized, lacked polish in many regards, and had an insane aimbotting suspect AI that would shoot you through walls.
Despite this, it was still playable, and the AI was somewhat manageable with mods. In short, the game had potential, and as a huge fan of SWAT 4, I kept defending it and hoping for the best, even though the updates stopped altogether.
However, the 1.0 release was beyond disappointing. It completely broke my trust in VOID Interactive, as they didn't fix any of the issues the game had in EA. It somehow performs worse now, with random stutters that are nearly unavoidable (it runs worse in lower settings), and if the suspect AI felt unrealistic before, they're superhuman now.
