The Super Mario RPG remake is an impossible wish come true. The biggest complaints for this release pale in comparison to incredible visuals, new intense challenges, fantastic music, and well-retained charm. This release is sure to be worthwhile for both fans of the original and first-time Mario players.
Super Mario RPG may not offer the lengthiest or most challenging quest that you will ever face, but it is a game with tremendous heart that never fails to raise a smile. Modernised for a new generation, it bookends what has been a stratospheric year for Mushroom Kingdom adventures.
An exceptional remake of the SNES original. The gameplay additions are minimal but make the title more engaging. The new visuals and music greatly enhance the overall experience while remaining faithful to the classic style. The new post game additions are also appreciated. I'd say this is the best Mario RPG experience ever, and would highly recommend trying it out.
Super Mario RPG is the perfect remake of one of Nintendo’s very finest games, and I’m so very glad it’s about to find a whole new audience. This is an adventure that’s fizzing with invention, unforgettable characters, and sharp writing. One final, joyous surprise for Switch owners in 2023.
Super Mario RPG is a remake that follows pretty closely the original game from SNES, with its core actually holding up really well. What's interesting is that Nintendo has not only pumped up the visual aspect, but it has also introduced new elements so that it measures up to today's standards. On the not so good side of things is that some players may find Super Mario RPG exceedingly easy and kind of repetitive, but even so it remains a funny and joyful experience, and you'll love the artistic side as well as the OST.
Super Mario RPG is one of the most interesting remasters I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Returning to 1996 and joining Mario and pals on this zany adventure that contributed greatly to my love of turn-based RPGs was a nostalgic joyride.
Super Mario RPG is considered a classic for a reason, and this wonderfully faithful remake makes it easy for anyone who missed it in the SNES era to see why. It’s unabashedly odd, reveling in the unexpected with writing that constantly had me bursting out laughing at jokes I’d heard a dozen times before. Its turn-based combat is fairly simple outside of its very clever boss fights, but it’s also ultra satisfying to keep your timing string going even when you’re plowing through pushovers. And while the updated graphics are equal parts pretty and sort of unambitious when it comes to interpreting the original’s style (with some unfortunate menu lag), the new takes on its excellent music are truly exceptional. Super Mario RPG already held up pretty well if you didn’t mind a bit of dust on its different systems, but now there’s no excuse not to see why Mario’s most unexpected adventure is still so beloved.
Even without some necessary changes, Super Mario RPG remains one of the plumber's most charming and eccentric adventures. The remake faithfully maintains it's quirkyness while expanding the magic with one of the Switch's most impressive graphic treatments. If you are a fan of the original, however, know that this is not exactly the remake that the original deserved.

Sometimes just a visual upgrade and a few refinements are enough to refresh an old classic to a modern audience, but that's not really the case for Mario RPG. The game as whole (gameplay, story and level design) feels now a bit too simple, not to say a little dated. Still a good game though. It just doesn't have that timeless factor as many Nintendo classics from that era.
It's an okay game but these reviews are highly inflated. The story is extremely linear and the combat progression is as well. It feels like you're on a conveyor belt where you hardly have to make any choices. You'rein charge of your equipment and then three stats. Outside of that there's really just one or two best moves for a character. it gets old pretty quick.
I imagine this game was groundbreaking and exciting in 1995. Not so much today.
The game still feels old and too difficult. Boring sound design and terrible combat system. I like turn-based and the speed. But it’s to hard to react by this timing. It’s like the SNES version is running in background. Not worth 60 bucks. Maybe 20. Anyway, you can test the SNES version. If you don’t like it, you’ll not like the remake. It’s the same old feeling. Other people may like this. But in this case I’m bored about. Feels cheap and I’m stuck now and quit. I hope Nintendo will not follow this path.
