But perhaps Blood West’s strongest component is its exploration, and the pull to devour every inch of its creepy map design can be reason enough to turn the game into a 30-hour experience or more. The amount of that time spent dying and backtracking are all part of the hellish journey, but the difficulty is balanced such that gamers of all stripes should find enough equipment and upgrades to power their way through. For a combat-heavy horror game, Blood West focuses on the most important details and leaves the rest to rot, and their full release version delivers one of the year's best surprises.
Good game in a retro souse. Stealth mechanic is nice and the game itself is really challenging. I am not a fun of the "kill very often" system, but still I really enjoy the game. For me - indie of the year!
Blood West is a cruel and tough stealth FPS. Moreover, its retro approach and slow-gameplay will appeal to older gamers. However, its brutal learning curve will put off many would-be fans.
Blood West is an excellent game for fans of stealth games. It makes use of classic design ideas from games as wide ranging as the seminal Thief titles, to more modern ones like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in order to shape its mechanics and general gameplay loop. The progression system encourages exploration, which is made all the better thanks to excellent level design.
Blood West is a perfectly standard take on the western horror genre, offering new monsters, takes on firearms, and the aspect of being part of the undead. Will you be able to free the land from the evil curses brought on by the settlers? or will you become just another vengeful spirit roaming these hardened lands, a ghost of the past. Either way its up to you to decide with your knife, bow, and plenty of fire power to settle the wild west!
Blood West takes inspiration from Deus Ex, Thief and Dishonored, yet falls disappointingly short. The level design and some particular mechanics didn’t aid the stealth gameplay very much, though the game’s large arsenal of weapons and tools and helpful UI do give it a decent stealth foundation which fans of the genre can get a lot out of. Unfortunately, the game’s gruelling death mechanics, unclear quest objectives and simple plot create an experience that’s simply exhausting after a while. Fans of stealth-focused immersive sims might enjoy Blood West well enough, but only if they are prepared for many frustrating mechanics holding the experience back.
Scratches that stealthFPS/RPG itch. Yes, it's hard, but not in a unfair, stupid way. It demands you put some effort into learning its unique flow and mastering combat, leveling up your char and getting someusewful perks helps a lot, too. Once you're powerful enough, the game becomes very rewarding, but you'll never get that annoying feeling that you're overpowered and you'rejust going through the motions to finish the game. No, the challenge remains no matter how good you become. PAir all that with a very imaginative and colorful vision of horror/fantasy Wild West and what you get is a game to remember!
EDIT:
After finishing the game I'm changing my score to a full 10/10. Yes, this is an indie game, not a big budget blockbuster, but the way it delivers its story and atmosphere easily beats AAA titles (apart form Baldurs gate) that came out this year.
It's a great indie game that can give you some sort of single campaign for Hunt Showdown.
But hey, where's new updates? We've got only first chapter of the campaign.

The world's gone mad, broken, and cursed, and the last thing worthy of faith and reverence is the double-barreled shotgun at your side. They say that dead men tell...
