It is hard to translate just how satisfying it feels to tear through a horde of heathens in Darktide as its thunderous soundtrack plays to words. The best way to do so seems to be simply saying that it is spot-on enough to surely please any fan of Warhammer or horde shooters. Darktide is a Primarch amongst Warhammer games, and it serves the corpse emperor admirably.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the 40K-version of the Vermintide games and Fatshark delivers again a fantastic co-op experience. The combat feels visceral and meaty and is a true upgrade compared to the former games. There are however a lot less classes, even though they all feel unique. Some features are clearly removed during production, so hopefully they will get added next to more classes. Fatshark has already released some updates, so the future is looking bright for Darktide.
Today it's a really good game. I tried it on PC Game Pass then bought it on Steam and nowadays they added a new talent system that really makes each class have its own place. I really enjoy it, my only quirk with it is the current lack of maps and no real variations whatsoever, but that's really about it. If it had some semi-procedural system where at least you could have mixed layouts that'd make it a solid 10/10, you really get tired of the same maps
Warhammer 40,000 Darktide is a title that needs more content and some tweaking. Graphically it is excellent and the play of light and shadow, in particular, make some moments even memorable. However, the balance between the classes needs to be reviewed, as well as the in-game economy and the cost of aesthetic elements. In any case, when lived with a handful of connected players, Darktide manages to be appreciated at its best but in some hours the shadow of repetitiveness makes itself felt. As for the Warhammer 40,000 lore, the game is steeped in it, but an audible and non-influential background radiation remains. The launch on Game Pass can help support the experience in the short term, when the novelty effect is still hot but it is clear that the production will need worthy support from the developers to continue to entertain the public.
Darktide looks great, sounds fantastic, and even with all my complaining… I've spent 53 hours playing it. 53 hours of the kind of fun that no other game this year gave me. And I'm sure that in six months, or a year, Darktide will be a game that will deserve a much higher rating.
One should expect more from the extremely rich Warhammer 40k lore. Darktide has some good ideas but commits the ultimate sin for a game: it becomes boring due to its extreme repetitiveness.
Obvious Left 4 Dead 2 rip off, but that game is fun, so it isn't a bad thing. Some of the most satisfying and meaty first person melee combat I've seen in a videogame, and the classes offer a good bit of diversity in gameplay, although the gameplay loop is quite repetitive. Great to play with friends but can overstay it's welcome.
Pretty decent game it gets a bit repetitive. It would be very cool to see more environments and new classes in the future. The melee combat is fun but the ability balance between classes is all over the place.
I realy wish Fatshark would replicate their great models, maps and gameplay in a different engine. I still sometimes play Darktide but it is 100% DESPITE the effing garbage engine that they use. I cant get a stable framerate at even the lowest settings, hit registration issues are even more evident given the amount of ranged weapons compared to vermintide. There has been 1 new Map sinsce release which honestly i realy like a lot. But still the awful bugs, performance issues and also weird rendering of smoke and sometimes light are ruining the experience for me. Just make the same thing in something like Unreal and might even purchase something from the stupid cosmetics store.
This was the first time playing a Warhammer game and boy I got disappointed. I thought this was a classic FPS with a story. But no, this is just another Destiny like looter shooter. Cant they just make a nice singleplayer game?
