An exceptionally well-crafted compilation, perhaps the best retro package ever. No matter whether you cut your teeth on the ZX Spectrum or Xbox 360, you’ll find something to love here.
Hands down the best Xbox One exclusive, and also the best gaming compliation ever made, comprised of masterpieces made by the best gaming company of all time, Rareware.
Rare Replay is a momentous celebration of gaming history. The package has been constructed with care and attention to detail, offering gamers of all types a glimpse into the past of one of the industry’s greatest studios.
Rare Replay is a fantastic collection of great games, quality is very high and in many cases enhanced by graphical improvements. The section devoted to the ZX Spectrum has mainly historical value, but titles such as Knight Lore and Jetpac manage to surprise even today. The library Xbox 360 must be seen as a bonus and is seen more as an excuse to investigate the potential emulator Xbox One, really incredible. The absence of titles Nintendo is felt quite heavily and some choices, such as insert Killer Instinct Gold, are questionable, but at that price you should not miss this.
A Rare collection without GoldenEye is like the Louvre without the Mona Lisa, true, but it gives us room to appreciate the Raphaels, Michelangelos and, er, just pick this up, okay? [Oct 2015, p.77]
It seems a bit petty to be moaning when what's here is such incredible value, but we have some titles at their very peak and others simply emulated. The 360 games not being tied in with the same milestones and launching via backwards compatibility seem slightly disconnected from the rest, too, even if a handful of them show Rare at its best.
Literally just got this for 7 bucks. I just wanted to play Banjo-Kazooie and got this bundle cause it was cheaper than buying the XBLA version. I got a bit distracted by the other games and now i‘m seeing myself playing these classic games all the time. Literally the best deal ever
What can I say? It's a collection of 30 of the best games Rare has ever put out for $30. You can't go wrong here. I literally have nothing negative to say about this game except that I just don't like a few of the games. Which still leaves 27 or so games that are awesome. Probably the single best value for your money this generation. Even if this just had Conker's Bad Fur Day on it alone it would still be worth it as it retails for like $60-100 physical. If you like retro games, you would be stupid to not buy this.
I won't be reviewing the games themselves, but rather the implementation of them as a whole. Remember that you need at least 8GB to download this collection. The games previously released on XBLA will download one by one, and THEN Rare Replay itself will begin downloading. Once everything's done, you're ready to play. The old XBLA games will reboot in an Xbox 360 emulation. One issue is that there's no way to resize your screen, which means some of the text/games will be cut off. And now, on to my biggest complaint; the menus. They're incredibly slow and unresponsive. As a matter of fact, they're prone to FREEZING. I've had this happen on multiple occasions. It's incredibly frustrating to navigate, and a real shame they're so badly implemented. It makes the overall product/experience feel rushed.
Other gaming collections like Namco Museum or Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on the Xbox 360 do a FAR superior job in bringing those old games back with functional menus/UI and gives an overall smoother experience. Not so with Rare Replay. A bit disappointing, considering we've got stronger hardware to work with on the Xbox One.
Bought this with a lot of **** loved playing Banjo,Blastcorp and even Sabre Wulf when they first came out.Even the more recent Kameo was the first 360 game I saw and IMHO remained one of the best games on the platform.I put the disc in with my 8 year old son who was expecting a treat to see what 'daddy used to play in the olden days'.
However, the games were disappointing and just not up to modern **** instant death thing on the early games with no real reward very quickly put off my young **** controls on Blastcorps were not precise and a couple of minutes of the bullzozer jiggling all over the place was enough.Banjo and Kazooie Tooie was next and even that seemed very lame with features like 3d areas and flying, that were cutting edge then, appear ordinary in **** only one that really entertained myself and my son was **** has modern day quality and plays smoothly (was the plant the basis for Plants vs Zombies?).Overall a nice museum style nostalgia trip but the games have lost a lot of the cutting edge magic and appear meh now unfortunately :(
I really wish the game was better, i loved N64/SNES era Rare but most of these games are broken and don't even run at a stable framerate which is horrible for a (Next Gen Console) Please avoid buying this until it's fixed and fully playable.
