Do you like baseball? MLB The Show 23 is your one stop shop for all things baseball. It’s great with tons of game modes and extras, including the returning March to October mode and the fantastic Negro Leagues presentation. That it’s not on PS+ as yet is a bit of an eyebrow raiser given its Game Pass day one inclusion, so it’s a shame that Sony didn’t see fit to include it as yet. If you’re curious, take a chance and you’ll be rewarded with a fascinating insight into the wider world of baseball.
Very solid offering from the MLB The Show team. Game looks great, plays great, andreally gives you the ability to take a deep dive in Franchise and enjoy it. I am sure there are some things that can be done in Franchise that makes it more like being a GM of a club, but in terms of Franchise play from all the major sports, this is definitely the deepest and should be the model for EA to look at in terms of giving both Franchise only type players what they want and the money making modes like Diamond Dynasty, HUT, FUT, MUT what they want. This is the only series that doesn't rob Peter to Pay Paul all in the sake of giving into the arcade style players...
After repeating the same exact gameplay year after year, MLB The Show 23 finally offers some interest-ing new features in an fresh enjoyable experience, both in old and in new game modes. There’s a great atmosphere on the diamond, and there are tons of things to do, games to play, stars to unlock. Some shadows on the online, with a netcode that it's shaky at times.
The 2023 version of MLB The Show is by far the best and most visually advanced Baseball simulation on the market, and if you watch or play the sport, there is no harm in giving it a try, although it doesn’t offer much outside of the story mode.
Fundamentally, though, MLB the Show 23 is a good game. MLB the Show 22 was a good game. Adding the Negro Leagues mode was noble from Sony (and no doubt the kind of goodwill-generating progressive addition that will keep the licensor happy with how Sony is treating the IP). However, the misstep with the World Baseball League and a complete unwillingness to build on any mode but the awful Diamond Dynasty also make this year’s The Show unacceptable. If you missed last year’s iteration, then you can add a couple of stars to this score, because for you, it won’t be one of the most cynical annual iterations that we’ve seen in sports games for quite some time. For the rest of us, though. No. Not good enough.
always a good time playing this game. Single player modes have improved but Diamond Dynasty is still the best online sports game and its not even close.
The gameplay and everything is nice but I’m tired of hearing the same stuff from the announcers. When I’m playing road the show and I play a lot of games there and the announcers always say the same stuff exactly the same way every game
We're playing the same product from ten years ago. I know the studio is stretched thin, but it's time for NEXT GEN games on these expensive consoles that most of us now have.
This game had to be made by a studio that doesn't watch baseball at all. Hitting is unbearable as most swings result in a pop-out, a foul, or a home run. There is no in-between. It's every player is Kyle Schwarber with a sub-.200 average and 40 home runs. Pitching is ridiculous because no matter how good the pitcher's control is he will not place the ball where you put it about 90% of the time. And none of this changes even when I mess with the sliders to try and make it more realistic, which I shouldn't have to do because this is a baseball simulation game. It should be realistic as a standard. Too many catch animations as when I go to catch a ball in the outfield the player wants to stretch for the ball 20 feet away then misses and it takes minutes to get up and actually get the damn ball. No MLB player does that ****. The only good thing about this game is that it does look good. Also, most batting and pitching animations look nothing like how they actually bat or pitch. Some real MLB equipment is missing like hand guards. They removed some cleats that players are still wearing for ugly new ones. You can't customize some arm sleeves fully like you actually can. And why can they not add tattoos to players like NBA 2k does? It's not that hard to when you changed pretty much nothing about the game from last year. Also missing some features from RTTS like actually building a relationship with teammates and going back to college instead of getting drafted. Also half the time in RTTS I can't train unless I actually play all the games. All in all, I feel this is turning out to be the new EA-making Madden games. Critics had to be paid to review this game as well as they did or they just played a single quick match and then reviewed it.
