Halo: Spartan Strike is nothing more than a filler in the main saga, but once you acknowledge that, you'll find a pretty good twin-stick shooter, with a good setting and solid gameplay. The multiplayer would have earned it a higher score.
Classic isometric action packed adventure that takes place during the Halo 2 events. Linear and too familiar, but still interesting enough for Halo aficionados.
It's a great game, but there are some features that make it a little sloppy. Some stationary turrets as Shade and Gun just do not get hot. So you can be shooting at will. It makes the game easier sometimes. And some missions of Operation A seems like a tutorial, as if you were learning to play...
However, there are more vehicles, weapons and grenades (both UNSC as Covenant), and more Armor Abilities that we saw in the previous game, Spartan Assault. We also have new enemies, some more challenging...
The gameplay is a little confusing for those who came from Spartan Assault. The change of weapons and grenades are in different keys (1 and 2, from keyboard respectively). And now, we have an assistant (not Cortana, of course), who tells you the objectives of the mission, which makes the game a litte bit more interesting. And to get some achievements, we have to play with certain skulls selected, which makes the game very hard...
The Soundtrack is similar to the predecessor game. And the Storyline is interesting. Halo: Spartan Strike is not a big deal, but it's cool and fun, really.
Everything was good, except one thing. Enemies felt too strong, and yet too dumb. which means you need strength much more than intelligence. bad news: you can't get enough strength to stop the game from getting boring, while you have a plenty of useless intelligence.
This game is pretty okay to me. While It does a good job of recreating the iconic Halo FPS gameplay from a top-down perspective, its story and multiplayer (or lack thereof), are this game and its predecessor's biggest downfall. I am being hard on it because they had a whole game before this to show them what to do better next time, and they failed to improve upon Spartan Assault, in fact, I don't think they even attempted. First, the story. While it is cool to have the UNSC simulation running you through previous events in the Halo universe, they wasted the even better possibility for an original storyline simply because they were lazy. What is the point of a sequel if it doesn't build on the prequel's flaws? A prefect example of this is from Halo 1 to Halo 2. Halo 2 added new guns, new locations, new characters, and new enemies to the table, and generally improved upon the already fantastic prequel, so it was not just the same old gameplay and story from before. It gives people a reason to keep coming back or even buy it in the first place. The story does however take place in a simulation of the Battle of New Mombasa, which is from my favorite Halo game. Having multiplayer is one thing that could keep people coming back. When I heard Spartan Assault was getting a sequel, me and others were hoping for multiplayer. I don't hate this game. I really don't. I enjoy it for what it is, but I am being hard on it because I know they can do better. If people call them out on this and give their opinions, they will listen, like all developers should. I hope 343 will listen to my and others' opinions and Spartan 3, if it even comes out, could be better. This game was really just made to promote and benefit from Halo 5's hype. It is only $2.99, so I recommend people try it out. Different people have different opinions, and you might love it. There are a lot of redeeming qualities, such as the vehicles and weapon variety, but I know they could do better, as they have demonstrated with Halo 4 and Halo Wars 2. It is not great, and I could not recommend it if it had a higher price, but for $2.99, you cant beat it, and I guarantee you will have fun and be entertained for a couple days. All in all, I am not bashing this game, I am just criticizing it. Please buy this game. I don't hate it, I just know they could have done a lot of things better, and maybe they will be fixed it future games. Maybe even a full-length fully-featured game based on this concept. I know I would buy it.
