With fast paced frenetic combat, a story that keeps you guessing, and enough interlocked systems to bring it all together in a way the first game never could, Everspace 2 is the best space game I’ve played in a very long time. Rockfish reached for the stars, and damn if they didn’t catch ‘em.
Everspace 2 is an excellent game filled to the brim with content. Regardless of your genre of choice, Everspace 2 will definitely have something for you, from a fun, lengthy story, to intense space combat, to an endgame fueled by the hunt for better loot.
After more than 200hrs of gameplay I must say that EVERSPACE 2 is a masterpiece than no other. Early reviews with less than 50hrs of gameplay did injustice to the game since they did not even toughed to the slightest the variety and depth of gameplay of this sandbox unique space themed game. Played with an Xbox type controller Logitech F710 for PC (recommended way to play using an Xbox type controller is by reducing the moving sensitivity of the controller sticks to the bare minimum).
Everspace II is a great trip to the stars and planets, where your spaceship really has a lot of uses. It manifests itself in combat, when completing tasks (sometimes with puzzle elements) and developing the story. It is massive, fun, you will spend dozens of hours exploring the corners of the universe.
Excellent graphics and a very good combat system are stained by a story component that is subpar. A shame, because Everspace 2 could have otherwise aspired to the heights of Freelancer.
Disguised as a simple space sim, Everspace 2 hides an engine full of solid and very well accomplished ARPG systems. The story leaves something to be desired, but there is no shortage of options when it comes to the variety of builds possible. Combat is a real pleasure at every stage of the game, propelled by systems that are easy to understand and deep enough to let your skill and imagination run wild.
Everspace 2 might seem like more of the same, especially thanks to its plodding prologue, but there's more going on here than you see at first glance. There's a stronger sense of place, better story, and more interesting cast that feel like they fulfill the original game's potential. Exploration is better than ever, and while combat hasn't changed too much, the careful balancing act of managing your resources makes every encounter feel fresh and exciting.
Everspace 2 is pure, distilled video game, all about how its space combat action plays moment to moment rather than whether that makes sense in a game world or fits a complex and nuanced story.
superb game! I love the "diablo" meets "space sim" aspect. The visuals are really nice. The story is nothing too special but interesting so far and the open world gives you a "freedom" experience.
it is far more accessible than star citizen. If you liked freelancer, you will also like this one. If you like science fiction, you will also like it :)
Enjoying my time with it for the most part, but having some issues on the Game Pass PC version. I'm running a RTX 2060 super (not the best I know), an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 core, and 32 gigs of ram and even on low graphic settings my fans are constantly running, so be prepared. That said, gameplay is great and I am really liking how combat feels, and the ship customization. Mission structure is pretty basic but passable. I'm glad it is on game pass for sure, but anyone with even lower specs than mine might want to steer clear for a bit until maybe 1 or 2 updates.
Pros
- The combat is acceptable
- There are rewards for exploration
Cons
- Alienates the original Everspace fanbase by scrapping the roguelike concept of the first game for a mediocre story driven sequel.
- Uninteresting environment. Everywhere looks the same.
- Encounters are extremely repetitive
A wall of boring repetitive grind. Bad music and mobile-like gameplay do not help the grind at all. The endless "find a piece in a random place and put it where it fits" puzzles get tedious within the first few hours. You even have to grind for the fast travel that you unlock pretty late into the game. I ended up never using it at all.
Don't listen to anyone who compares this game to Freelancer. They are nothing alike. Everspace 2 has next to no redeeming qualities. Maybe the story?
EDIT: finished the game, the story is anything but okay. Just like everything else in the game, it shows promise initially, but eventually takes a huge nosedive and loses any semblance of quality.
