So big The Witcher 3 wants a rest. This is an epic told with flair, coupled with one of the liveliest open worlds on PlayStation 4. Odyssey is not just the best Assassin’s Creed in years, but one of the finest action RPGs you’ll play. [Issue#155, p.72]
Having played the first Assassin's Creed game and Liberation into what was it's latest entry was interesting to say the least. I always did admire the Assassin's Creed games for doing a ton of research to how the past was, and I'm very happy with how Odyssey presented itself throughout. What I was shocked about tho was the drastic turn from normal stealth game, to RPG, and while it took time to adjust to the RPG mechanics, overall it was probably the more interesting of the two game types I know from the **** say the least about Odyssey is to say that there is a lot of it. From enemy camps, cult assassination targets, family drama, mystic powers, and story missions, Odyssey gives you so much to chew about itself that it never feels like you will run out of things to do or places to explore. Odyssey's map is ridiculously huge, and the amount of objectives, and content both during and post game are just dense. Odyssey is certainly one of those games that doesn't feel like you can just playthrough the story with how much it offers to explore, see, do, and **** to the fact that not only are a lot of the characters just well written, but well written for their time period. It's layers on layers of history and acting and really I just can't see anyone else, but a triple A team doing that stuff. Not to say, I'm exactly happy with the current industry trends, just that this was out of the realm of imagination in the 2000s. It really is captivating to see the comparison between game generations sometimes, and this is one of those games that remind me of **** really is a wonder why Assassin's Creed tries to tell the future stories when we get so little of it to began with, and I get it can be a pace breaker sometimes, but I only really remember the beginning having a story bit and somewhere in the middle. The story within the computer simulation, aka Assassin's Creed Odyssey itself is a decent enough one though. Mostly it deals with finding your sibling then taking care of them once you find them with some extra family along the way, but it never really felt like it was actually the main plot of the game. If anything the main game really feels more like a side story in the grand scheme of things. But by the time I hit the credits and looked at the rest of the stuff I had to do, I was just kinda done. Odyssey asks a lot out of ya, and just like, I was way too full with the main course to consider going after more of it.Overall Assassin's Creed Odyssey is an ambitious title with a lot to offer. If you enjoy historically accurate fiction, busy work, exploration, and Kassandra's muscles I certainly suggest playing this game. It may have a lot to chew on, but at least you won't go hungry for content.
The world of Odyssey is the most versatile and fun yet in Assassin's Creed, offering distinctive storytelling, great variety of combat gameplay and exciting exploration.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is big and beautiful. Could it be a much better game? Sure. But it's an amazing adventure with echoes of the Greek classic tales about travels and fantasy.
Fans who arrive at Odyssey expecting the Assassin’s Creed experience they grew up with may be disappointed or confused, but gamers ready for a new era for the franchise should plan to be overwhelmed with opportunity.
Odyssey is no doubt the biggest game in the Assassin's Creed series, and could easily be considered the best one. Unfortunately the efforts to reshape an action game into an RPG were only partially successful. Ubisoft already checked off everything from a great atmosphere and a gigantic map to some cool gameplay mechanics, but narration and moral choices still do not deliver - Witcher 3 is still miles ahead.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey features a rich, lush world lessened by its repetitive activities. Though the main story is compelling, completing it requires you to participate in a massive amount of level grinding through less-than-stellar side quests. There’s plenty to do in this world, but a lot of it feels like busy work that fights to stay exciting or compelling. Odyssey is yet another open world game that misinterprets the meaning of more content.
Ubisoft made another mediocre assassin. Not too god not too bad. Story not great, but still engaging. Combat system very different from the first games of the serie.
Literally just a side mission grinding simulator, after level 15 you'll get like 1 Main mission for every 10 side missions, but thing is, i wouldn't mind as much if the world i was playing in was an immersive and engaging ancient greece rpg, but there is fantasy elements in this game????? what were they thinking???? there's cults, and magic, and you can infuse your blade with poison and fire??? They have also decided to make the map ginormous which means this game suffers from a bad case of quantity over quality, so unfortunately 80% of the world feels like copy and pasted mountains and country sides and the cities and towns feel small and pathetic, imagine how many bigger, livlier, extensive and more detailed the cities we could've been if that was their focus instead of making the map massive smh.
It looks and plays like Origins, with slightly different scenery and characters. But what I really didn't like was being unable to just progress through the main story without doing other activities to level up. Also the developers were clearly pushing certain agendas that I didn't like.
