Bringing back the once seemingly moribund RTS in spectacular style, Company of Heroes 3 is intense, tactical, authentic, meaty and innovative - but not for the faint-hearted or those seeking instant gratification.
A very convincing return for one of Relic's more iconic series that keeps the best features of the previous games while also bringing fresh new ideas that change the way players can play and enjoy Company of Heroes. Will it be the best strategy game of 2023? Only time will tell.
Company of Heroes 3 is an excellent game for veterans of the RTS genre and complete newbies who've never felt the rush of overseeing resources while micromanaging units on a virtual battlefield. Its double campaign feature provides two very distinct ways to experience the game, while the real-time strategy gameplay shows just how engaging and rewarding the genre can be if you give it the time and learn the systems in place.
Company of Heroes 3 can confidently stand alongside its predecessors in the series. It's a fun real-time strategy game, although not as revolutionary or distinctive as its older siblings. The gameplay is almost the same as it was in the previous games.
Although the current Company of Heroes 3 is not perfect, and the designers at Relic Entertainment have had some bad ideas, the fact that this game has made it to the third title, to be honest, is enough for us old fans of the game to cheer and get excited about.
Given the superiority of the previous two games, I wasn't surprised that Company of Heroes 3 captured my imagination again. The new Total War-style campaign layers added some variety, but didn't overwhelm my brain. Even without it, however, the battles are still endlessly fun, chaotic, and challenging. Company of Heroes 3 reminds me that a good RTS can still be a lot of fun and enjoyment.
Pros:
- the gameplay is solid and it is pretty fun
- the graphics look good (they are better than CoH2, idk what people are smoking, the details are better, the particles and the effects are better)
- the performance is pretty good, better than CoH2, that game still lags sometimes
- there is a lot of content at launch, way more than in CoH1 and CoH2 at their launches
Cons:
- some bugs in the italian campaign map
- unfinished assets (some of the portraits are still placeholders and have the CoH2 pictures)
- the announcers are pretty bad (you can barely hear when a grenade is thrown)
- the zooming (in my opinion) should be further away, but this is the fault of the community, as many people did complain that the zoom is too far and that the tanks look small (this complains happened during the test from winter if I remember correctly)
- the pings should be more visible
- some features are missing, but Relic did manage this pretty well as they stated this missing at launch features from the start. They've written an entire blog post with everything that the game will have and not have at launch
Conclusion:
- if you wanna play the campaigns, go for the game, it is pretty fun
- if you wanna have fun with the gameplay, go for it, as there are a lot of broken tactics because the game is new, ofc it won't be very balanced
- if you just wanna play ranked and tryhard, I suggest you to wait as there are no replays (just a work around for them), no real ranked system and so on at launch, but those will be added soon.
I personally can't understand why people are hating so much. The game has a solid foundation and for real, even CoH1 had so many bugs and problems at the beginning (the matchmaking was trash, the people would remove you from lobbies 24/7 because you just started playing or because you have low rank, the community was toxic af and so on) and I remember this because I've played a lot of CoH1 when I as between 11 and 14 years old.
EDIT!
I still enjoy game, but I hate its development. let`s hope next update will fix something, without adding another bugs... If you manage to learn how to play, then it can it can be fine 1v1.
AI is bad.
Campaigns are bad
Don't buy it for singleplayer!

Do not look at positive reviews befor August. Their updates are just a mess of incopetence and being out of their mind, without balance tests with competent players... They are probably doing tests vs AI.
Update 1.20 bought a lot of new bugs, performance issues and even crashes, with really stupid balance desisions like ASC buff, when everyone expected nerf, jeep buff, which already was meta play, a joke change to armored reserves.... TWO UNITS WERE NOT BUILDABLE
Hotfix 1.21 fixed some crashes....
Hotfix 1.22 fixed performance issues and changed ASC, which was buff and nerf at the same time.
A lot of new bugs are still there.... or stupid decision
-autocannons bugged.
-bursts from some weapons bugged
-pathing was changed in a lazy way and now is better and worst at the same time... for example they
removed collisions on the move, even with enemy vehicles
-recon tractor had self reapir in description, which does not worked... With update they changed description, by removing selfrepair from it.
-decapture buff from BG ability still not working, reported it 2-3 months ago
-towing is now BS, vehicles sometimes dance around At gun and sometimes your vehicle can be stuck after connecting to AT gun.
-if you try to drop infatry from transporter, then with new update it is worse.... units block vehicles path, so it needs to turn, then vehicles shows side armor to enemy, when trying to reverse, or even
rear armor!
-very lazy incopetent balance cahnges to DAK, they swing balance like monkey... and then it takes months to changed something back to better state
-self repair for Stuarts got buff and cost reduction... now 40 munition upgrade give you smoke and faster self repair, than sappers repair speed and x1.6 faster than DAK self repair
-marders are as "fast" as italian infantry out of combat... GL changing positions
-hellcats still miss like stupid.... but now marder can miss more often too, at long range.
-HMG changes buffed all of them.... We went from useless HMG at 1.0 to spam it at 1.20.... Set up time is so fast, than you can flank it from behind and it will get in to position, befor you are able to kill it... And there are 3 of them!
-AT loiter are still bugged in many ways... They will shoot at not marked target, if it was near marked one, can shoot up to 3 times outside circle, when target is marked
-nerf to AA, now strafes can not be killed even by 20 AA units (beside 2 flak36 / 88), if you destroy plane after strike, it will not affect ability... Befor update it could extend CD, everybody expected buff to AA or rework
.......................................................................
-OH one more... They increased clickbox for units, so they are easier to pick, but now picking up team weapons and soo on is much harder...
They are pissing on us and some community members say it is raining.
It could be a good game, but Relic can not do good games anymore and they can not finish them.
Main game designer is dead since COH1 and COH2 was balanced by community, after sometime, but dev team ignored all lessons from COH2.
Everybody who gave this game more than 6/10 just lie to you, in the best case scenarion and large hopes, it can be 6/10, during good updates.... But with 1.20 it was 2/10.
I could give it even 7/10 and get over a lot of garbage, before planes rework and enjoy it a lot, with hope for great redemption story.
Plane update was suspicious, 1.20 is just bad to say at least, but I could use all curse words all know.
They should invest money in to playtests and dev team, not buying reviews...
As a longtime CoH fan I'm very disappointed by CoH3. The single player campaigns are so buggy and unfinished its barely functional, and definitely not worth the asking price. The much touted Italian campaign sounded great in theory but is abysmally implemented, like a bad Total War parody. Even where the game does impress its essentially CoH 2 with slightly improved graphics. There are shockingly few new ideas on display given that its been a decade since the last game. I would highly recommend waiting for a sale to pick this up, at which time hopefully most bugs will have been fixed.
SummaryBigger and better than ever, Company of Heroes 3 combines heart-pounding combat with deeper strategic choices in a stunning Mediterranean theatre of war. In Company of Heroes 3, every battle tells a story...what's yours?
