Phantom Liberty is CD Projekt RED’s masterpiece. Not only is Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty graphically easily three generations ahead of the entire industry and redefines how we experience video games with pathtracing, it’s also written even more thrillingly and staged even more explosively. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy this several times in different play styles has never loved video games. A clear must-play.
It was a long road for CD Projekt RED from the botched launch of Cyberpunk 2077 to the game it has become with Phantom Liberty – and although the road was bumpy, the light at the end of the tunnel was real after all. The only expansion this game will receive has a fantastic storyline, plenty of feels, entertainment, joy, and technical bells and whistles.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (v2.1) redeemed itself grandiosely. It went from being impossible to play in 2020 due to the sheer volume of bugs, to one of the best open-world experiences of my life.
Now, the great sci-fi story can shine, with another incredible chapter in Phantom Liberty exploring more aspects of the universe, with fun gameplay, out-of-the-charts songs, and tons of content. Everything just works now. It is a must-play.
Except for some lingering bugs and other graphical issues, the Phantom Liberty DLC serves as an ideal swan song for this iteration of Cyberpunk 2077. The story is gripping from beginning to end thanks to some expected but exciting plot twists, a big diverging point in the story that occurs way before the end of the campaign, and some very memorable and fleshed-out characters. The tale may be somewhat self-contained, but the ties to the rest of the city make it feel like a proper expansion versus something completely siloed off from the rest of the game. That would be a good enough reason for existing fans to take the plunge, but given the various changes made by patch 2.0, it's a game that's definitely worth jumping into if you've been waiting for a good chunk of the issues to get cleared up.
Playing Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023 is by-and-large a wonderful experience. It genuinely feels like CDPR has managed to zero-in on a lot of what the base game did well, as well as finding ways to polish up some of the aspects of it that didn’t quite live up to their potential.
From its breathless opening hours to its twisting narrative, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty would be worth the price of admission for its plot and characters alone. That it also offers an impressive new district, open-world dynamic events, and even more ways to build your own Cyberpunk mythos makes it an even easier recommendation.
Phantom Liberty is a good expansion that adds an intriguing storyline filled with memorable characters and that, together with the 2.0 version, manages to also improve the gameplay, adding new features and changing existing ones that help Cyberpunk come closer to what we were promised years ago.
Phantom Liberty brings a visceral narrative to the already soul-gripping adventure of Cyberpunk. V finds themselves on another pilgrimage fueled with espionage and intrigue, and must plunge deep into a web of broken loyalties, and political power plays to save the President of the NUSA with the help of FIA Agent Solom Reed. (played by Idris Elba)
In the pulsating heart of the megalopolis that is Night City, we find ourselves in a self-governed combat zone that is Dogtown. Contacted by FIA Agent Intelligence analyst, Song So Mi "Songbird", with the promise of helping V to eliminate the biochip lodged in their head, V must help to save the President of the NUSA Rosalind Myers, as Space Force One crashes in Dogtown.
While adding a compelling new narrative to Cyberpunk, Phantom Liberty adds a plethora of new weapons, a new skill tree, gigs, and side quests, to the abundance of activities that make up Night City. From completing side gigs for ‘Mr. Hands’ to completing quests that add to the story within Phantom Liberty, you’ll find yourself fully submerged for hours within Dogtown.
Phantom Liberty adds a stellar lineup of characters to help fill out the narrative. Colonel Hansen, a veteran of the ‘Unification War’ rules with an iron fist with the help of his militia, ‘Barghest Soldiers. Alex is an aspiring braindance actress turned FIA agent whose shapeshifting abilities make her a powerful tool within the FIA. Solomon Reed (played by Idris Elba) has a dossier filled with assassination attempts, successful negotiation attempts with kidnappers, and multiple sabotage operations and coups in South American republics. His last mission was to help build a successful spy network within Night City during the ‘Unification War’. In 2070 after realizing the war was a lost cause the NUSA disbanded his cell and he dropped off the radar. So Mi "Songbird" is President Myers’ right hand and an incredibly powerful netrunner. Rosalind Myers is the former CEO of Militech and is currently in her third term as President of the New United States of America.
I was enamored with the abundance of detail within Dogtown. From the swarming shop-packed ‘EBM Petrochem Stadium’ that breathes like a modern-day shopping mall to the larger-than-life neon-light pyramid that is ‘Heavy Hearts Club’, CD PROJEKT RED perfectly immerses you in the Cyberpunk universe.
My initial journey with Cyberpunk was a sour one. After experiencing multiple game-breaking bugs at launch, I had given up. Periodically checking in with each update but never feeling that investment like I did with ‘The Witcher 3’. Then came update 2.0 and I was hooked. Then comes Phantom Liberty forever cementing Cyberpunk: 2077 into my top five games within the new decade, if not the top three.
Phantom Liberty is CD PROJEKT RED at perfection. An encapsulating story, breathtaking visuals, deep and compelling characters, and a spy thriller that culminates in an almost alien-like game of cat and mouse. Phantom Liberty is a must-buy.
7,3/10 Cyberpunk, 3 years later, was again able to create hype around by announcing a story addition, but for me personally it didn’t really justify **** plot uses the hackneyed theme of spy political games, surprising at the beginning, but not offering anything incredibly original later, although, of course, the story suits the setting of the game perfectly, but personally, I couldn’t get into the characters, and this is extremely important for the ending of the game, which there are two. The first one is made in classic style in terms of gameplay and with cinematic framing,The second (I won’t spoil it) provides a unique experience, which I don’t remember being implemented in any task in the original game, on the contrary, this aspect of the game has always been poorly developed, each of them will take about 3-4 hours of your time,After the credits, a new ending for the whole story will immediately open,And the location itself of the closed, but very gangster micro-district “Dog City”, and the Story, where we are given another option for treatment - all this very cleverly complements the main game, doesn`t interfere with anything, and will certainly please the **** same cannot be said about the “side-quests”, in the dlc they seemed quite lazy to me, you won't remember a single one (by the way, some will need to be completed in the areas of the original game), everything is done according to the template - “dialogue-battle-dillema”, and therefore don’t expect any new mechanics / biochips (not counting shooting from a car and the police on streets, which is just an update of the basis), the story missions are also the same as before, 90% of the dialogues with excellent framing (and the possibility to rewind), 10% reach the point by combat or stealth, everything is the same as before,If you have played Cyberpunk 2077 for a very long time or haven’t played at all, you can immediately start a new campaign, at first it will be a little hard to get used to, but you will be given a fairly good set of abilities / weapons from the start, at least I didn`t encounter any difficulties on the “normal” difficulty level, I had enough money to try both cars and implants, the walktrough will take you 11-25 hours, but, of course, conceptually the plot of the original game is better than in the DLC, and I would advise you to first familiarize yourself with the basis, at least on YouTube, although not I exclude that the story of “Phantom Liberty” may hook someone even more.p.s. Naturally, bugs still occur, this is far from a “completely fixed Cyberbug”, wait for 4.0 version, CD Projects have already promised an "Ultimate edition" in the future, which will include DLC. The pros: adds an incredibly well told story to the game that is told with immaculate acting performances from everyone involved. Improves many game mechanics and gets rid of ones that dated the game severely. Adds many new items, quests and locations to the game world. Huge, thrilling cutscenes add to the scope of this expansion and really sell you on the intense plot.
The cons: Many bugs that existed at launch still exist in 2.0 and some game mechanics (such as driving) are still lackluster at best. Some new mechanics offered really don't feel necessary and don't add meaningful depth to the gaming experience.
Whoever decided that it would be a good idea to include a chase scene where you're killed instantly the moment the enemy comes near you (sending you back to the last checkpoint and forcing you to watch an unskippable cutscene every time), shouldn't be allowed to participate in game development. Phantom Liberty was a decent DLC up to that point, but this single-handedly ruined my overall impression of it.
How did this crap get so much applause? It's buggy as hell! Seriously you cannot trust any big Reviewers like IGN nowadays. How does this game get a decent score?
1. Vehicle contracts can spawn in a restricted-action zone, meaning your guns will be sheathed forcibly, and you are forced to step out of the car. Thus the mission cannot be finished.
2. Type-66 Windgate doesn't show in your car inventory after purchase.
3. Turning off the security cameras doesn't always work.
4. The mission "Old Person, Same Old Mistakes" completely bugs out. The sliding door is closed, with no way of opening it.
5. Randomly disables my skeleton and hands cyberwares, which you acquire through perks. Return to a ripperdoc can fix it.
6. Biomonitor cyberware sometimes not triggering. Return to a ripperdoc, take it off and re-equip it will fix it.
7. Purple weapons sometimes drop as Tier 4++, you can sell them, but if you dissemble them, you get no materials.
8. After the final main mission of the DLC, the Overwatch sniper suddenly got a mission icon and could not be stored.
