Steven Spielberg has done it again. He has created another instant American classic.
E.T. is ultimately a tale of love, and the film becomes a cathartic leap into pure feeling. [2002 re-release]

Why it rocks: It has positive themes about friendship and loyalty, like something should for a family film. And in the end, it isn’t just about a being from another planet, it’s about a funny boy and an alien joining a friendship. The score is dope, the plot is very well executed and acting is nice.

We're told that this new version is tweaked and enhanced, with the E.T. puppet digitally smoothed out, and the guns in the meanies' hands removed (silly, but bravo). [2002 re-release]
Spielberg has always demonstrated extraordinary aptitude for filmmaking, but "E.T." is far and away his most satisfying work to date. He knows how to transform the raw material of his childhood into an appealing popular fable. There are sequences that touch you to the quick in mysteriously casual ways
"E.T." is as contemporary as laser-beam technology, but it's full of the timeless longings expressed in children's literature of all eras.
Spielberg has always shown a penchant for overt manipulation, but nowhere is this more obvious than in E.T., where he pulls out all the stops in an effort to bleed tears from the eyes of every audience member. It doesn't take a cynical nature to recognize what the director is doing. [2002 re-release]
The story itself holds up fairly well though, twenty years later, does come off as thinner than I recalled. [2002 re-release]
Timeless childhood movie!!!!
Please ignore the killjoys here that are reviewing and saying this is a bad movie; they clearly have no concept of legendary storytelling or creativity and should be quiet. One such reviewer said this was copied from 'Mac and Me'. All it takes is two minutes to do your research and to the person that posted that - don't spread false info. Mac and Me was released in 1988 and was a blatant rip off of E. T.
This movie is a true masterpiece. I first saw it back in 1994 and it stuck with me since then. I miss those times terribly, however I can imagine how amazing it would have been to see it in cinemas back then! It is one of the best films ever created accompanied by one of the best soundtracks to ever be recorded. It is charming, funny and tear-jerking and the plot is straight to the point with each scene executed beautifully! This movie is a must watch and an all time-classic. I assure you it will stick with you for years.
There will never be another movie like this.

This 1982 fantasy, sci fi, family, adventure film is one of them films that never really grabbed my interest but seen it enough times. I'd say the only good bits are the flying bikes and the bike scenes at the end. The rest is kind of tacky, lazy and boring and certainly most of this film drags on and is boring and the alien named E.T. looks faker than Michael Jackson's plastic surgery and he talks and is leprechaun sized. The kids even treat him as a friend and human being and help him get back home to his planet. One of the worst films ever made but some may enjoy it but certainly not me.... Stars Dee Wallace, Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore... Directed by Steven Spielberg.

This film, seen when you are a child, remains positively impressed but if you see it when you grow up it can create repulsion. The story is very banal, the alien aesthetically **** and the film is full of clichés. I prefer a more adult science fiction. One of the worst Spielberg's movies.
