A better film about war beneath the ocean and about guys in the "silent service" has not been made.
Run Silent, Run Deep is a taut, exciting drama of submarine warfare in the Pacific during the Second World War.

Hairy-chested drama aboard a US submarine, cruising dodgy Pacific waters after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Clark Gable is impressive as sole survivor of a sunk sub, given command of another. [06 May 2006, p.53]
The entire film, in fact, is one of the better submarine dramas ever made, tense and claustrophobic, with a minimum of dalliances back at the base (in defiance of the Hollywood dictum that no movie without a love interest can succeed).
