The result is something that, while never reaching the ineffable magic of Clark’s film, ends up in solidly entertaining, if slightly disjointed, holiday territory.
After fits and stops, this sequel finds its nostalgic sweet spot midway through and lands an ending that feels earned and honors the spirit of Shepherd and the characters of A Christmas Story.

A wonderful tribute to the original film. It keeps the charm and warmth of the original, while respectfully not trying to replicate first film. Instead, this sequel pays homage to the first with reverence and nostalgia, in the finest ways.

Fans of A Christmas Story, and those simply in the mood for a holiday flick, will enjoy A Christmas Story Christmas for the light, nicely touching tale that it is in its own right, without the pressure of having to be as perfect as something as legendary as the leg lamp.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard A Christmas Story Christmas tries to replicate what audiences loved about the original, it can't help but feel overshadowed by the legacy of nostalgia that the 1983 classic inspires.
While it spends perhaps too much of its running time either recreating or directly quoting moments from its 1983 predecessor, it still manages to land some new and original gags of its own.
Like its predecessor, it is enjoyably episodic, jumping from one comic vignette to another. Some of these connect, while others land with a thud. But so it goes with Christmas. Not every present is a winner.
Mostly it made me want to watch the original, which, as always, remains well worth revisiting.
Fantastic. A true sequel to the original. There are tons of subtle call outs to the original. This needs to air with every marathon. If you loved the original for what it was, you will love the sequel. It's a movie for everyone, modernity hasn't tainted it, politics hasn't tainted it, it's pure Christmas magic.

In the interest of full disclosure (and at the risk of sounding like Ebenezer Scrooge), I must confess that I have never been a big fan of this offering’s perennial and much-beloved holiday predecessor (1983), as I saw it as a vehicle that aimlessly meandered and struggled too hard to elicit laughs. But the problems faced by the original can’t begin to compare to those of this ill-conceived sequel, a plodding and even more meandering release that’s just not funny and is far too derivative for its own good. It’s easy to see why this is a project that went straight to streaming, because it never would have stood a chance in theaters, despite whatever goodwill and good cheer the holiday season might have been available to generously (and undeservedly) shower upon it. In short, director Clay Kaytis’s third feature outing misses the mark across the board with its lame narrative and even lamer attempts at humor, which come too few and far between to be detectable. “A Christmas Story Christmas” once again proves the old Hollywood adage about not remaking classics or attempting to produce sequels of them; they rarely work, as is very much the case here – a project that never should have left the drawing board.

this movie is fantastic and a true sequel to the original. thats what i wouuld say if i was a liar. i reality this film gave me ass cancer.
things i would rather do than watch this movie:
run barefoot through a lego covered floor.
shoot my own eye out with a red ryder bb gun.
get a rough handjob from a chimpanzee.
enjoy a nice homecooked meal with jeffrey dahmer.
trust a fart after taco bell.
spend the afernoon with james corden and amy schumer.
in closing this film is further proof that hollywood is runny out of ideas.
i think they should play this movie on loop in prisons as a way to punish rapist and childmolesters
