Dredge is an indie horror gem that will be looked upon fondly by anyone with an affinity for adventure and mystery. Every part of the game is engaging and otherworldly, yet distinctly down to earth. From the charming low-poly graphics, to the deeply emotion-invoking soundtrack, to the heartfelt story, Dredge understands how to make the player feel immersed in its dark yet beautiful world.
DREDGE is both atmospheric and mechanically engaging. The story threads are very personal and, at times, heartbreaking. Even though I didn’t catch all the species featured in the encyclopedia, I had plenty of fun moving around the world, trying to identify the best spots for certain species and mastering mini-games. Narrative progression can sometimes feel slow, especially if players only approach fishing as a means to an end. Catching some fish feels needlessly complicated. But these are minor issues with a game that has a big dark heart and makes exploration and fishing very fun. DREDGE is a great experience that mixes genres and ideas while keeping the experience accessible to everyone.
Dredge is without a doubt the best indie experience of this year. Wonderful atmosphere, lore and soundtrack, I can't stop praising the incredible work of Black Salt Games.
Dredge is a fantastically twisted fishing horror full of charm. It snags in parts but still successfully reeled me in from start to finish. A beautifully dreary bite-sized mystery.
A game that is disturbing, charming and full of spirit, all at the same time. It draws from H. P. Lovecraft and does it very well – and it also manages to stay on point, not wasting your time with anything that isn’t needed. You should make the journey, even if there are some blemishes to be found.
Dredge is both relaxing and unnerving in the best ways. While the day/night cycle could be handled better, it's still an exciting seafaring voyage and one that's worth checking out.
Dredge is a short, humble game full of unrealized potential. The longer I played it, the more I regretted that it offers so little content. Black Salt Games also couldn’t decide whether their debut title should be relaxing or challenging, and as a result it does neither well. However, it is still a fun change from huge RPGs and open worlds that devour weeks.
It’s indicative of just how important a game’s moment-to-moment hooks are that even with its shortcomings, Dredge is by and large an enjoyable experience.
Amazing game! Doesn't feel too long or short, it was such a pleasure to play. I figured the horror elements would be really weak but this is a genuinely terrifying game. I LOVE THE MUSIC IN THIS GAME! at first I was underwhelmed by the music in this game but when I listened closer I could feel a sinister echo in the sound track. And the final scene, left me disturbed for the rest of the day. And the end credits music is amazing
i was surprised by the amount of 10/10 reviews this game got. it's definitely fun, especially the first half, but later on in the game you just upgrade your boat for the sake of upgrading it, fish don't have 'stats' and you don't really even make more money as you're able to catch newer types of fish. the amount of times my engines got disabled by the slightest damage was frustrating as well. buy it on sale for the story & aesthetic feel but expect gameplay to be a bit lacking
When I saw the gameplay of the demo I thought it was just another garbage. However, I wanted to give it a try, hoping I was wrong.
But no, unfortunately, I wasn't. It is a delivery boy simulator. "Hey, dude, bring me this, bring me that, do this, do that", without any real interest in seeing what happens when you complete the task and, in some cases, the game tells you: "the person leaves without giving you anything in change" WTF? I mean, you've done a job, for nothing, because it's not even entertaining. It is that you have to fish and dredge and, although the name implies it, it shouldn't mean you have to spend 99.99% of the game fishing and dredging, but yes, yes it is. Fish and dredge, fish and dredge, for all eternity. Because the crappy boat you have is improved with things that are quite expensive and what you fish and dredge is not worth a damn. It is barely enough to repair the damage, some of which is caused by the slightest touch against a rock.
And the story? Better to watch both endings on youtube, save your money and use it on something much better than this overhyped piece of trash.
