In this case, it’s the thrills that sell, and Gran Turismo has plenty of those.

Living the dream. Triumpth over adversity. Feel good factor. The highest of stakes. All based off a true story. Which makes this all kind of amazing a gamer did all this and endured all this to git gud at the real thing. Very inspiring and inspirational sports movie for sure.

Director Neill Blomkamp’s Gran Turismo, a crowd-pleasing, genre-bending sports drama, approaches wonder with an odd tepidness; it maneuvers around any modicum of character development by taking all-too simple routes and swerves away from formal experimentation, opting instead for simple enjoyment.
Fast, furious and based on fact, this pleasingly lateral adaptation embellishes a console-jockey favourite with familiar sports-movie archetypes.
Great racing sequences aside, it’s so clichéd and unadventurous that it makes its source material seem deep by comparison.
In the end, Gran Turismo can't escape the feeling of being actively held back at every turn — by the confines of video game conventions, by a painfully trope-laden script, or simply by the fact that everything this video game movie wants to achieve has already been done better before.
Commerce contaminates the whole endeavour.
This movieIt's certainly the best of 2023, it brought me a lot of emotion! Music also releases pure dopamine

Well made but extremely silly, the amount of times the phrase "this isn't a game!" is said is in the dozens. Also in the hundreds for drone shots of racing and race tracks. When the one driver yelled in German "****! the gamer!" when he got passed I laughed out loud genuinely.

Is it relatively faithful to the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough? Sure, but the film lacks heart. There's nothing that makes you invested in what is happening. We just go through the predictable motions with unlikable characters as the movie tries to force us to care about what is going on. It's not even that it is a bad film, it's just lifeless. We've been through something like this far too many times before.
